other programs, or what made you choose your program?
Excellent peds training (6 months in peds ED with peds EM
trained attendings and fellows, as well as 2 other dedicated
peds months), strong critical care training
2. Are there any
major upcoming changes to your program?
Program has expanded over the past 3 years from 8 residents per
class to 12 per class
3. Is there
anything you would change about your program if you could?
Improved attending coverage in ED, allowing for more time for
teaching
4. How much are
you responsible for blood draws, putting in IVs, etc.?
Not
responsible--excellent support staff
5. Do you learn
mostly from attendings, other residents, or textbooks? Does this
vary when you do off-service rotations?
Excellent teaching attendings, as well as lots of learning from
senior residents
6. How does EMed
rank in your hospital's hierarchy?
Well-established--program director has been here 20+ years and
is very well respected

What are the perks that your school provides (PDAs, textbooks,
conference fees, meal tickets, etc.)?
Textbooks, meals, CME money, attend SAEM 2nd year and ACEP 3rd
year, 1 month paid rotation in Hawaii 3rd year (great month!),
PDAs, paid attendance for any conference where accepted for
poster or presentation
8. How do you
rate your rotations outside of the emergency department?
Variable, some great, some not so great

best elective you've done?
Hawaii
10. How much does
your program focus on research?
Depends on how much you're interested--strong research focus for
program, research project required, some do more than others.
11. What do you
love and hate most about the city you're in?
Love: people are nice, college town, low cost of living, people
get very excited about Ohio
State football
Hate: Not much to offer in terms of outdoor activities, winters
are long and gray

describe your typical month in terms of work hours and days off.
1st
year ED: 22 10-hour shifts with one 3-day weekend
2nd
year: 20 10-hour shifts with one 3-day weekend
3rd
year: 18 combo of 9- and 12-hr shifts with 2 3-day weekends
